OMG Battletoads! I still have it on NES... That game is the hardest game ever... It's amazing how you captured the maniacal look the game seems to give you before it mutilates your soul and makes you want to quit games. It's so fun though...
Well... that's battletoads for ya. Even if you try to use a Game Genie, this will literally kick your ass tenfold. The co-op won't help either because friendly fire is enabled plus if one person loses all their lives, it's game over for them both.
Well done Sibsy. Though the pause theme and some music in the game is really good. Now if you'll excuse me, I must ask Vinyl to see if she can remix the Battletoads pause theme.
+2 Initiative in Aquatic terrain, +1d8 vs. Insectoid, gain "Poison Dart" at 1st level (50% chance 1d4 damage to attacker upon melee attack), +4 to Diplomacy rolls pertaining to individuals with a weird affinity for frogs and/or amphibiologists, -2 Intimidate because it is a frog in fatigues, and alliterations are not threatening.
Battle Toads is a common meme on the internet. The joke is that you're supposed to call a gaming store and ask the question : "Do you guys have Battle Toads?" The punchline is that the game is quite rare and since everyone calls in for the game (to continue the internet joke), most game stores have stopped answering or get rather cross to the question. The game is also internet famous since it is widely seen as one of the most difficult of its time.
I can still hear the crash and all-too-expected WHACK of the control against the ground as I uttered words of contempt at traversing the speederbike level in that game. The character's expression in the image pretty much solidifies what I feel right now if I were to find that game and hold it in my hands... "I will break you" >)
It's funny, being a fan of both, I never considered them to be similar at all...even when I was a kid. I can understand why some folks would have that opinion, but Battletoads had such a different story and characters and style! I loved them both! :3
